2011 Honda CR-Z
2011 Honda CR-Z

It's true that hybrids are fantastic when it comes to fuel economy. But is it too much to ask for driving enjoyment to go along with bragging rights at the fuel pump? Luckily for us, Honda provided the 2011 CR-Z hybrid with sharp handling to match its miserly fuel consumption. This futuristic-looking 2-passenger coupe is a genuine delight on a twisty road - so long as you don't put a premium (pun intended) on horsepower.

A 113-bhp 1.5-liter 4-cylinder is coupled to a 13-hp electric motor, whose battery pack is located beneath the cargo floor. The CR-Z is high-tech, but not rapid. Expect a 0-60 mph time of approximately 9 seconds-the same ballpark as many economy cars. Yet the ride and nimble handling make up for the lack of straight-line punch.

On sale in late August, and priced under $20,000 for the base model, the Honda CR-Z hybrid won't be gathering dust on dealer lots.

Best Used Cars 2007-2009 Honda CRV

Honda CR-V
Honda CR-V

For over a decade, the Honda CR-V has provided compact SUV shoppers with one of the best combinations of safety, utility and affordability in its class. Typical of Honda, the CR-V also stands out for its superb history of reliability, but not its ordinary looks or road performance. Drivers, however, don't seem to mind -- the CR-V drives well and provides enough passenger and cargo room to meet most needs. In recent years, Honda has improved the CR-V's exterior design and included a host of modern gadgetry to keep pace with other top-selling models, like the Toyota RAV4 and GMC Terrain. According to Kelley Blue Book: "Few vehicles do as many things as well as the CR-V. As practical as a backpack, this benchmark crossover is an easy, one-size-fits-most car choice."

Honda to roll out plug-in hybrid car in 2013

July 19, 2010 by Automotive News

TOKYO (Reuters) --Honda Motor Co. is working on a hybrid car that can be recharged at home and an all-electric vehicle, both for release in about three years, the Nikkei business daily reported.

Honda President Takanobu Ito will announce the company's hybrid and alternative vehicle plans at a news conference on Tuesday, the paper reported in its Tuesday editions.

Honda is also considering building hybrids in the United States, the paper said.

Conventional hybrids are cars that can charge their own batteries, which turn a motor that assists a gasoline-powered engine providing most of the power. Plug-in hybrids, on the other hand, can make short trips using the motor alone.

Honda expects its plug-in hybrid to go 60 kilometers (37 miles) or more on a single liter of gas, making it more fuel-efficient than rival Toyota Motor Corp.'s best-selling hybrid, the Prius, the Nikkei said.

Honda will release its electric car in the United States first, the daily reported.

The company is considering manufacturing the Honda Insight and two other hybrids in the U.S. markets and plans to expand its lineup of hybrids to five or so by 2013, the Nikkei said.
