Meet "Peaman" and Team Honda
Who is Peaman and how did Big Island Honda Kona get involved?
Sean "Peaman" Pagett is a local icon and legend in the racing community of Kailua Kona, HI. Peaman has hosted over 300 FREE local races over the last 20 years in Kailua Kona. Each month he has a themed race covering a variety of distances. Sometimes swimming, sometimes running, sometimes biking, and usually a mixture of the three. The races are open to all ages and participation from the Keiki of Hawaii is strongly encouraged. These races are not to determine who is the fastest, but usually who participates and finishes. You never sign up for a Peaman race, you only sign out when you're pau. There are unlimited categories of competition like swimming with fins, running with a dog, snorkeling, roller skating and rollerblading?if you can think of it he'll make a category for it! Afterwards in an effort to keep the kids encouraged and happy, there are always plenty of prizes and toys. That's where Big Island Honda - Kona stepped in to help out.
In the fall of 2009, a group of employees from Big Island Honda in Kona decided it was time to get involved in the racing community. It wasn't long until they were regulars at the Peaman events. "We wanted to do something for the community, and Peaman was a natural fit," said Korey Pulluaim, the Sales Manager of Big Island Honda (an up-and-comer in the triathlete community). "It was a chance for us to not only promote good health, but actively participate and get involved," Ray Whitford shared. Big Island Honda began sponsoring the Toy Box for the Peaman events. "It is so great to see how excited the kids get to earn a toy after finishing a race. These events are keeping these kids fit and are teaching them to not be couch potatoes," former Kealakehe football and wrestling standout Keola Wimbish expressed.
Big Island Honda is currently working with Peaman and another local Honda Dealership to form a "Team Honda" triathlon in September each year.
